The Historic Town of Georgetown

Georgetown is the third oldest city in South Carolina.  Georgetown became an official port of entry in 1732 and flourished with indigo and rice crops.  Close to half of the rice consumed in the U.S. was grown around the Georgetown area.  The historic district was laid out in 1729 by the cities founder, Elisha Screven.  Come and visit our wonderful waterfront city and enjoy shopping, dining and touring this lovely lowcountry town.

Georgetown County Museum displays 300 years of history, to include arrowheads and pipes of Native Americans, a letter written by General Francis Marion and original slave documents from 1796.

Kaminski House was constructed in 1769 and is a popular place for weddings, concerts and special events.

The Rice Museum located in the town clock displays the history of our rice culture.

S.C. Maritime Museum boasts the maritime history of Georgetown to include a dugout cypress canoe (Civil War relic).

There are also many tours available from Ghost Tours in the downtown area to boat tours and fishing charters and shelling tours.  Pawleys Island beaches are only minutes away and Myrtle Beach offers entertainment, dining, golfing and shopping.  So much to do! Come and enjoy!
